Wedding Resources on Big Island
Whether you make commissions off of these depends on whether or not the resort or wedding coordinator offers commission. Many resorts do not offer commission on the wedding portion of the booking. Only if you do a room block with them for the wedding couple and their guests.
***ALWAYS ask what they offer as far as commission before you quote to your clients.
Hawaii Beach Wedding Regulations
To hold a wedding ceremony on a public beach on Hawaii Island, the following requirements must be met:
- Beach Permit: A “Right-of-Entry” permit is mandatory for any wedding conducted on a public beach. This permit must be obtained in advance and be present during the event.
- Licensed Coordinator or Vendor: The permit application must be submitted by a licensed wedding coordinator, officiant, photographer, or other authorized vendor.
- Restrictions on Setups: The use of structures such as arches, chairs, podiums, or any furniture is generally prohibited on public beaches. Exceptions are made for a limited number of chairs for elderly or disabled guests. Receptions can also not allowed to be held on the beach.
- Guest Limitations: Beach weddings are limited to a maximum of 30 attendees, including the couple and officiant.
- Resort Policies: While resorts may offer oceanfront venues, they cannot conduct ceremonies directly on the beach, as all beaches in Hawaii are public property. Therefore, if you have a couple that wants to do their wedding on the actual beach, they will need to hire a wedding coordinator to be able to have a toes in the sand wedding.

Wedding Coordinators NOT Associated with a Resort
Commission structures can vary based on the package, number of guests, and services booked. It’s recommended that you contact each coordinator directly to discuss specific commission arrangements and to find out if they even offer it. If they don’t offer commission you can always have your client work directly with the coordinator. Just be sure to have them cc you on emails so you’re in the loop.
This is not a list of EVERY wedding coordinator on Big Island, but it is a pretty solid list of options that have decent reviews and possibly had a history of working with travel agents and paying commission.
